No one expected Mumford & Sons to be bigger than Justin Bieber – certainly not the British folk-rock band themselves. But their second album, Babel, shook up the music industry in September by selling 75 000 in Canada and 600 000 copies in the U.S. in its first week of release. That’s the biggest first week of sales of 2012 – bettering The Biebs.
Carly Rae Jepsen was asked if her two Grammy nominations are any less sweet because of the music awards’ snub by Justin Bieber, instrumental in her rise to fame.
“Justin and me, and the whole team, we kind of call ourselves a family,” said Jepsen, a native of Mission, B.C. “And we’re always supportive of each other; it doesn’t feel like one person’s success, it feels like a shared one. So, in a way, he’ll be there. I wouldn’t be able to say I could’ve done any of this without his introduction and support and backing so it’s a shared success for us that night. And I know he’ll be rooting for me just like I’m always rooting for him.”
Justin Bieber’s overtaken Lady Gaga to become the most popular celebrity on Twitter. Both have been hovering around the 33 million mark, but Bieber overtook her by several thousand Monday night.
Gaga acknowledged his growing Twitter fan base January 13th, tweeting, “So proud of Justin Bieber and all the Beliebers! I’m only happy to see your fans growing in size, you all deserve it!”
Gaga held the title of ‘most followed’ on Twitter after queen Britney Spears led in 2010.
Katy Perry’s in third place, Rihanna is in fourth, ahead of U.S. President Barack Obama in 5th place.
