The origin of the song ‘Love Hurts’

Posted on by skye.sylvain

Love Hurts” was composed by Boudleaux Bryant. First recorded by The Everly Brothers in 1960, in 1975 by Nazareth, and in the UK a top 5 hit that year by Traffic’s Jim Capaldi. The first hit version of it was in 1961by Roy Orbison. A recording by Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons was included on his posthumously released album Grievous Angel. Emmylou Harris made the song a staple of her repertoire, and has included it in her concert set lists ever since, re-recording it twice. I saw her perform it September 1st at Daniel Lanois’ Greenbelt Harvest Picnic at Christie Lake near Hamilton. The song was also covered by Cher in 1975 for her album Stars.
