New Jersey’s Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen joined Staten Island’s Christina Aguilera yesterday in a televised benefit concert called Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together. The Red Cross telethon included appearances by Sting sang “sending out an SOS”, Long Island’s Billy Joel sang “seen the lights go out on Broadway”, Jimmy Fallon, Steven Tyler played “Dream On”, Tina Fey, Jon Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg, Kevin Bacon and Danny DeVito. Video footage of the devastation was shown, including the amusement pier on “Jersey Shore” which is in ruins. Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Aersomith and Jimmy Fallon, all sang together for “On the boardwalk.” Bruce and The E Street Band sang “Land of Hope and Dreams.”

Green Day singer to mentor

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong became the latest rock star announced to pop up on The Voice, as a mentor. The network tweeted, “What goes together better than Billie Joe Armstrong and Christina Aguilera? Um, NOTHING!”
The panel of judges includes Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and country singer Blake Shelton. Carson Daly is host.
Past guest mentors have included Mary J. Blige and Michael Buble.
With “American Idol” shaking up its judge’s panel and hiring Mariah Carey and “X Factor” nabbing Britney Spears to dole out advice, the competition to get the biggest rock stars is cut-throat among the top music contest programs.“ “The Voice“’s new season starts on Sept. 10.

“The Voice” has a fun format, in which judge-mentors Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine initially turn their backs on contestants before competing among each other to mentor the new talent to stardom. The Voice kicks off with its “blind audition” phase, when coaches have their big chairs turned away as they listen to auditioning singers. Based on voice alone, the coaches decide whether they want each individual singer on their team. If two or more judges want the same singer, then it’s up to the singer. American Idol & Grammy winner Kelly Clarkson, has been hired as a mentor. Carson Daly, is host of The Voice. It’s fun to watch and aptly named, as it’s about the performers’ voices, not looks.
