If you are a busy boss, check your email… This is Administrative Professionals Day, and if you forgot, there is likely a memo from your Administrative professional reminding you of it.  They’ve got your back.

Mindy’s World – Beach Culture

Posted by mindy.williamson, in category Mindy's World, February 22, 2012 7:50 am

Maybe it was the sunshine or the vacation mindset that made me think of this, but wouldn’t life be easier if we all lived by the rules of the beach??

Mindy’s World: Hurry Up!

Posted by mindy.williamson, in category Mindy's World, February 20, 2012 7:36 am

Where is everyone going in such a hurry, and why are we in such a hurry to get there?

Ken and I are spending a few days at Universal Orlando Resorts, and I was in the elevator lobby and I was watching a kid.  He looked to be about 12 years old, and he was repeatedly, and intensely poking the elevator button, as if he figured that would make it go faster.

We are all guilty of that to an extent; hitting the crosswalk button trying to make the light turn green, standing in front of the microwave, urging the food mentally it to cook faster. We are all so busy with so much to get done.

It is kind of funny, when we go on vacation, we get up early and rush to get to the airport, only to wait for the airplane.  When the plane lands and stops, everyone stands up, only to wait until everyone gets their overhead luggage out of the bin before they can exit the plane.

We are hurrying up to slow down, and when we get there, we hurry up some more.  I’d love to know where this elusive place is that we are all in such a rush to get to.  My fear is though, that in the rush to get there, get going, get moving, we are going to forget to GET ON with it.  We are going to lose sight of the journey, and that is sometimes the best part.

Life moves pretty fast, and if we don’t hurry up and slow down, we are going to miss it!

 Or maybe that’s just me…

Katy Perry wants to clear up any rumours and misconceptions people may have about her split from hubby Russell Brand. The logical place to do that, according to Katy, is on Twitter.

Mindy’s World: No thank you ‘Ma’am”!

Posted by mindy.williamson, in category Mindy's World, Recent Music News, January 6, 2012 7:06 am

There is a four-letter word that I would like to eliminate from the English language.

It is not a particularly crude word, however, I cringe every time I hear it.

I was loading some groceries into my car the other day when a young man offered to help, which I appreciated very much.  I was weighed down by a number of bags, and when the trunk was all loaded up I thanked him and wished him a Happy New Year, to which he replied, ‘Not a problem, ma’am’.

Ma’am.  Ugh…

I get it, ‘ma’am’ is supposed to be a term of respect, a show of manners.  Nonetheless, I am not a fan of ‘ma’am’, and I don’t know anyone under the age of 65 without a walker or a hearing aid who likes being called ‘ma’am’.  It just sounds so old.

Granted, I’m not a teenager anymore, and I’m quite comfortable in my skin, but I’m not alone in this one.  Upon consulting google, there are thousands of articles, even books written on the subject.  Most women don’t like it.

Ma’am is the shortened derivative of the French word ‘Madame’, which means “my lady”; the feminine form of ‘lord’, which has a much more sophisticated ring to it than ‘ma’am’.

I mean no disrespect whatsoever to the polite man who helped me with my groceries, and I’m a big fan of respect and chivalry.  There isn’t enough of that in the world in my opinion.

But please, don’t call me ‘Ma’am’.

Or maybe that’s just me…

This morning I pay tribute to a special guy, or special girl (though it is usually a guy).  This particular mystery person is quite special this time of year, and shows up in neighborhoods around the world every time it snows.

Mindy’s World; Last minute shopping? At your own risk…

Posted by mindy.williamson, in category Cool, Mindy's World, December 23, 2011 7:08 am

I have the solution, or possibly the antidote for last minute shoppers at Christmas time…
We need a traffic cop at the mall, or at least road lines on the floor, indicating one way, 2-way directional traffic, no stopping, YIELD, no loitering, as well as a minimum and maximum speed limit.
Those who leave their shopping to the last minute take their lives into their own hands, and the harried looks on peoples’ faces in the mall last night is quite similar to the face of road rage.

Mindy’s World; guilt free indulgence, it’s ok!

Posted by mindy.williamson, in category Mindy's World, Recent Music News, December 21, 2011 7:10 am

I was at a Christmas party a couple of weeks ago, and I watched as a woman surveyed the food table. She looked anxious, grabbed a carrot stick and quickly left the room. A display of will power, or a display of martyrdom? She certainly didn’t look happy with her carrot stick, when the other choices included baked brie, meatballs and every kind of Christmas cookie and sweet imaginable…
