The Oakridge Optimists Arena is getting a major makeover.
Each year, the Lowe’s grant program works with Hockey Canada to select two Canadian neighbourhood rinks in need of renovation. This year, London and Windsor are recipients of the Community Rink Renovation Fund. Today, Lowe’s handed over a $50,000 cheque for painting, better bench seating, and a new trophy case. Mayor Joe Fontana and former NHL goalie and team Canada champion Curtis Joseph were on hand for celebrations.

Sambora bows out of Bon Jovi tour

Richie Sambora’s stepped out of Bon Jovi’s current tour, Because We Can, due to “personal issues”. All shows will go on as scheduled. He was missing when they played the Calgary Saddledome Tuesday. Jon Bon Jovi told the crowd, “I had two choices – pack up and go home or give you everything I got. Richie Sambora won’t be performing for a while. If there’s ever a night I need you, it’s tonight, Calgary!”
Jon promised to donate to a local charity to make amends.
Sambora’s had a few rough years – a stint in rehab, a drink-driving conviction, and a divorce from Heather Locklear. It’s a long road.
