What age is the best age to become a mom??
A girlfriend of mine is expecting her first child after years of trying the latest reproductive technologies. She and her husband had nearly given up hope of ever having a child, and then BAM!! There is a baby on the way, conceived the natural way.
The thing is, my girlfriend is 41, and she is getting a lot of flack, mainly from older female relatives who say a woman of 41 (she will be 42 when the baby is born) is too old to become a mother.
‘You will be at retirement age when that child goes off to college”.

“You won’t have the energy to chase a toddler around”.
“You will never be able to give that child a brother or a sister”.
Respectfully, or disrespectfully if you will, I say to these ladies, “shut your pie hole!”
There are always things we know now that we wish we had known before having babies. Maybe we would have done things differently back then. Perhaps having a child in your 20′s gives you an energy edge. On the other hand, perhaps waiting until you are older provides some time for a mom to learn more about herself, establish her career, get her priorities straight before making a commitment to having a child.

Ultimately, children need love. In my world, there is no age limit on a mother’s ability to love a child.

I was walking past Accents, my favourite fabulous shoe store on Richmond street last week with a buddy of mine. Of course I had to stop and admire the display in the window… and my buddy says to me ‘What is it with you women and your shoes?”

I am the mother of a son, and I silently thanked God for that the other day when I was at the mall, and overheard a conversation, or rather an argument, between a mother and her daughter over the dress the daughter had chosen, assuming for a Grade 8 graduation.

Funny thing happened while I was having trouble with my so-called smart phone…
I couldn’t send or receive text messages. I don’t know what was wrong with it, and it was fixed the next day with a simple call to the tech department, but for a full day I could not text.
