It was a year ago today when 44 people were killed when a plane crashed in Russia and wiped out an entire hockey team.

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the KHL was on its way to Belarus for the first game of the season when the plane went down shortly after take off.

Among the dead were a number of well known former NHL hockey stars, including Pavol Demitra, Canadian head coach Brad McCrimmon, and a number of future prospects.

A memorial service was held today in Yaroslavl in front of friends and family of the victims.
