Attention preteens and nursery schoolers who are looking to work on eliminating those pesky tan lines by cooking yourself in an indoor tanning bed: Forget about it. Go back to the basement and play with your Lego and Polly Pockets.
Oakville has become the first municipality in Ontario to ban teens from using tanning beds. And it likely won’t be long before other communities in Ontario follow suit.
In a unanimous vote, the decision will prohibit anyone under the age of 18 from using an indoor tanning bed.
How do you feel about this? Do you use tanning beds…do you have a teen who uses them?
In my humble opinion, tanning is over-rated anyway. It leaves you with that garish orange tint to your skin and you end up looking like some mutant sweet potato with eyes and teeth. Ask anyone on the dating scene if they have any interest in going out with a mutant sweet potato with eyes and teeth—guaranteed you won’t find one person who is looking for those attributes.
Also, beyond the horrifying and superficial effects, tanning is potentially really harmful to your health. The Canadian Cancer Society warns against the prolonged exposure to ultra-violet light as it can lead to all kinds of skin cancer.
Are you a parent of a tanning teenager? How do you feel about this new law?
