As part of the City’s annual Water Main and Sewer Capital Replacement Program, an existing trunk water main on Maitland St. must be shut-down between July 24th and July 25th.
With this water main out of service, other water mains will experience higher than normal flow-rates, which have the potential to release particles of rust from the interior surfaces of older, cast iron water mains. Although this does not represent a health concern, residents in the affected area may experience a slight red or brown discolouration in their tap water, or fluctuating pressure. These effects may be experienced in the area that is bounded by Horton St. north to Huron St, and Wharncliffe Rd. east to Adelaide St.
The City’s Water Services Area recommends that customers within this area avoid washing laundry during this period if they notice the discolouration. These effects could be experienced on any of the days indicated. Anyone experiencing water pressure problems or discolouration after July 25th should call 519-661-4739.
