Thomas Bros. Farm Market on Colonel Talbot Road and the CFIA are warning the public not to consume the fresh shelled peas that were sold from the market on June 27, 2012 as they may be contaminated with Listeria monosytogenes.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled, but if you eat it, the bacteria may cause listeriosis. The illness can cause high fever, severe headaches, neck stiffness and nausea. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weak immune systems are particularly at risk. So far, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

For more information, consumers and industry can call Thomas Bros. Farm Market at 519-671-8831 or the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342
