Booker T and the MGs’ bass player Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn died at the age of 70, found dead on the morning of May 13th in his hotel room in Japan. His friend, MGs guitarist Steve Cropper confirmed he died in his sleep. Dunn was in Tokyo for gigs, and had earlier performed at the Blue Note Night Club. Donald joined Booker T. and the MGs in 1964. The group disbanded in ‘71, he became a hugely successful session bass player, working with Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Muddy Waters. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, he received a lifetime achievement Grammy Award in 2007. Cropper posted, “I lost my best friend.”
