Adam Yauch, pronounced YOWK, of the Beastie Boys passed away yesterday at the age of 47. Also known as ‘MCA’, he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2009. He was in hospital since April 14th. He deteriorated over last two weeks. Conscious to the end, he died at 9am. 1986′s “Licensed to Ill, was the first hip-hop album to go #1.

Coldplay paid tribute to Adam with a cover of Fight For Your Right, on piano last night at the Hollywood Bowl. The Red Hot Chili Peppers dedicated last night’s show in Newark to Adam Yauch.
Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter.
