Quite often we want our results immediately. We want the body of our dreams and to feel amazing ASAP. Great, but it can take time to put solid/healthy habits in place, to work into these habits while making them our “new normal” and then to allow ourselves to transform with these newly formed habits.
When we look for immediate changes or attempt to make a huge lifestyle overhaul at once, it may be possible that we can see lasting changes, but it’s quite likely that we’ll experience more resistance and may feel more overwhelmed by so many new things to focus on than we would if we were to take things once step at a time.
Some great ways that new, lasting habits can be put in place is to start out with one important goal at a time and to keep focusing on it until it becomes a habit. Then move onto the next.
If you have goals to become more physically active and to follow cleaner eating habits (both important habits that can work hand-in-hand), try focusing on one and then work into the other. (If you would like some tips on creating these new healthier lifestyle habits, have a read through last week’s post.)
Most importantly, if you happen to slip with your new habits, don’t give up! Everyone has slip-ups and these do not mean you are failing with your new goals. Bumps in the road can be necessary and valuable experiences to learn from.
Something that may be helpful to remember is that habits are learned and created. If we have learned unhealthy habits over time, we can re-create and learn new healthier habits over time, as well regardless of any internal or external challenges that can arise.
