Quite often we want our results immediately. We want the body of our dreams and to feel amazing ASAP. Great, but it can take time to put solid/healthy habits in place, to work into these habits while making them our “new normal” and then to allow ourselves to transform with these newly formed habits.

London Tax Depots Tip: RRSP’s and TFSA’s

Be careful about the RRSP contribution deadline this year. Usually it’s March 1^st but because of the leap year it is Feb 29^thfor 2012. Contributions made before March 1^st can be claimed on your 2011 tax return if you have not already reached your contribution limit.

Mindy’s World; do we have to change?

My girlfriend is upset. Offended!!! Western has changed it’s name, and she doesn’t like it one bit.

The University of Western Ontario has had a face-lift. It isn’t major reconstructive surgery. There is a new nickname and a new logo, and will hereby be known as ’Western University’.

I understand where my pal is coming from. We are true to our schools. Isn’t a place of higher learning supposed to support tradition and history? We are not part of the wild west she says, so why make this change??

Change! Why does it have to change? Why can’t we leave things the way they are? Why is Facebook adding Timeline? Can’t we leave things the way they are? If it isn’t broken, why must we fix it??

Actually, Western University was the moniker used beginning back in the 1800′s, and right up until 1923.

It is still good old Western; purple, proud and prestigious. It just has a new look, making it more attractive with kids around the world who are looking for a place of higher learning.

It is kind of like botox; the branding was meant to smooth the wrinkles out, make it look fresh and new and able to compete with the other good-looking universities around the world in popularity with the kids.

The older we get, we tend to develop a greater appreciation for tradition and history, but we also develop a greater resistance to change. We don’t like it when there is a change in the routine, when someone adjusts the backrest on our chair at work, when someone else drives your car and leaves the seat too far forward, when Facebook adds a timeline.

Truth is, my dear girlfriend, change is the only constant. Hold my hand and let’s embrace it together, otherwise, we will be left behind.

Or maybe that’s just me.

Ken’s World: Don’t Hate Cliff Nordal

Don’t blame Cliff Nordal.
Seriously.
Everyone is outraged at Cliff Nordal for his obscene 730 thousand dollar salary, his over 1 million dollar bonus and his extravagant perks. He’s not the one we should be angry with.
Did he steal it? No.
Did he misrepresent himself? No.
Did he haul a bunch of ultrasound machines down to the local pawn shop? No.
Someone negotiated that contract with him, clearly the worst negotiator on the planet!
That is the person you should be angry with.
And please…please, do NOT take your anger out on the real innocent victims.
I read a letter to the editor this morning from a man who now refuses to donate money to hospitals.
You need to know that charities like the London Health Sciences Foundation do NOT support administration or operational expenses of hospitals. Those important donations go to things like equipment, research and education. Keep those donations coming!
But, how in the world can you say Cliff Nordal is an innocent in all this Ken? Well my good friend, try a little empathy. Put yourself in his place.
Anyone who says they would politely decline a job offer that included a million dollars stuffed in the trunk of a brand new Lexus is a way better person than I!
