No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

parking meter

There’s nothing like the feeling you get when you benefit from, or cause, a random act of kindness right?

Well in New Hampshire there is a group of people looking after each other when it comes to parking meters. They call it Robin Hooding in Keene and they claim to be fighting the “violent monopoly” the city has going on with their meters and how quickly enforcement officers swoop in to issue tickets. So this group quickly throw money into the meters to stop tickets from being handed out.

However, the city of Keene isn’t having any of it and is now trying to sue the group to stop the actions. The city claims the problem is these “Robin Hooders” (as they’re known) are following around enforcement officers and in the city’s words, taunting, interfering, harassing and intimidating them. The group says all they are doing is recording and uploading videos of their actions.

Too Pretty To Work?

'This Morning' TV Programme, London, Britain - 20 May 2013

The problems of the beautiful. For Laura Fernee her looks cause her all kinds of hassles, the biggest being that she can’t find a job.

Fernee has a PhD and says, ”I’m not lazy and I’m no bimbo. The truth is my good looks have caused massive problems for me when it comes to employment, so I’ve made the decision that employment just isn’t for me at the moment. It’s not my fault…I can’t help the way I look. In the end, as much as I loved my work, going in to work became very, very difficult because of the psychological impact on me. I know people will judge me for choosing not to work but they are underestimating just what a curse good looks can be in the workplace. Everyone thinks it must be great to be attractive but there are serious downsides. Male colleagues were only interested in me for how I looked. I wanted them to recognize my achievements and my professionalism but all they saw was my face and body. Even when I was in a laboratory in scrubs with no make-up they still came on to me because of my natural attractiveness. There was nothing I could do to stop it.”

Free Tickets For Game Seven? From The Bruins!?

Posted on by chris.mcewin

o-LEAFS-FANS-GAME-7-570

Imagine scoring free playoff tickets? Now imagine it’s for Game 7, in Boston!

It happened to four Torontonians. The really mind blowing part is that Leafs fans got their tickets from the Boston Bruins themselves.

It all happened after Boston lost last night, and then got stranded in Toronto because their plane had mechanical trouble. The team just wanted to find a place to eat, so they called a Canyon Creek Chophouse near the airport just minutes before the restaurant was going to close after an already busy Sunday thanks to Mother Day.

And the team, 50 players and staff strong, showed up and ate so much food that they had to call in back-up from another restaurant nearby owned by the same company.

As for the players, everyone agreed they were so polite and gracious about everything that even the Leafs fans who served them said they bad for the team since they had not only lost but were also clearly tired and were now stuck in Toronto. Still, they were as surprised end of the night, The Bruins made sure that those from the restaurant who could get to Boston for tonight could have tickets for the game.

Although Toronto won’t have all the luck in the stands, since one of the guys who scored tickets is a diehard Bruins fan.

The Worst Road Is…

Posted on by chris.mcewin

pothole

About halfway through this year’s contest for the worst roads in Ontario – and at this point Wharncliffe is just sitting in the Top 10 at #9. CAA launched this year’s search a couple weeks back and it all wraps up at the end of the month, so there’s still time to get your votes in. Not only does the Ontario Road Builder Association visit the Top 10 and make their recommendations one voting closes, but it’s also a chance to pick up some goodies for yourself since they have a draw for a $50 gas card daily or possibly gas for a year.

You can check it out and vote here.
